Joints too big on brick Dovecote!
Hi, I'm trying to build a 15' high 'Dovecote' similar to the one shown in the attached picture just not as fancy, the size of the circle I'm building the structure means that when I lay the bricks around the circumference the joints are really wide as seen in the attached picture. short of cutting every brick or possibly every 2nd brick does anyone have any better ideas to build this structure with 10mm joints? I wondered if there were actual bricks manufactured to create such structures?

If the joints need to be this wide what's the best mix of sand p/s, g/p,lime and cement to use?

Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: Joints too big on brick Dovecote!
Hi seaspray99

I'm afraid I doubt you'll get any replies to your question - this forum is now all but dead. The only visitors are me, you, and spammers these days.

Suggest you contact some of the many specialist groups and societies there seem to be out there. The only way I can see it being done without cutting every one/second brick would be to build two leafs with half-batts, using every fourth or fifth horizontally (staggered on every course) as a header to provide stability.

But - hey - what do I know!

Good luck with the project.
